Thoughtful preparation
Our plasterers do everything possible to keep the space tidy and protect your rooms and furniture. They’ll always help prepare the space as needed before starting the work itself.
Ideally, a room that’s about to be plastered will be clear of furniture and fittings. Any furniture that has to stay in the room will be protected with plastic sheeting, and floors and carpets will also be covered. In addition, all electrical sockets, switches and light fittings will be removed.
Our trade-accredited London plasterers can work quickly to produce a high-quality finish. In the process, they’ll try to cause as little disruption to your schedule and property as possible.
Experts in skim plastering
Skim plastering, or ‘top-coat plastering’ involves placing a layer of plaster on top of a base coat, or plasterboard, then flattening it out to create an ultra-smooth surface that’s free of blemishes and ready for decorating.
This process is challenging to get right, as you need to get the mixture right and apply a layer of the correct thickness for the best results. DIY skimming attempts that fail can cost more to put right than using an expert plastering contractor to begin with.
With the right tools, techniques and experience, our plasterers are highly adept at skim plastering.
Our guarantee and accreditations
We’re fully trade accredited. Aspect is a member of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), The Guild of Master Craftsmen, and the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA). In addition, all workmanship from our plasterers in London is guaranteed for 12 months.
When you book an Aspect plasterer, you can count on getting the professional expertise you’re looking for.
Drying times for new plaster
A newly plastered wall or ceiling needs time to completely dry before it can be decorated. Drying time will depend on the surface the plaster’s being applied to and the temperature and ventilation in the room.
A skim of plaster on a plasterboard will typically take two to three days to fully dry. When applied to a base, such as bonding, drying time could be as much as a week, even in the right conditions.
Wait until the skim coat of plaster has changed from a dark brown colour to a much lighter pinkish brown before starting to decorate. Our London plasterers will be able to advise once they’ve completed the job.
