How much will your central heating system benefit from a power flush? Having cold radiators, poor circulation, sludge build-up and blockages can lead to inefficiencies, higher energy costs and even leaks in the case of rusting radiators.

Our experts can assess the extent to which your radiators are impacted by the build-up of magnetite. Thermal imaging cameras show how efficiently radiator panels are able to heat a room. The same technology is also used to show how effective the power flush has been at removing magnetite from the system.

What to expect from a power flush

Water in a central heating system corrodes steel or iron radiators. Without the correct dose of system protector, ferrous oxide (rust) will form. This creates a dark sludge in the system, which is called “magnetite”.

The sludge typically settles at the centre of a radiator where water flow velocity is lower. As the sludge settles and solidifies, it prevents the hot water from heating that part of the radiator panel. Power flushing removes magnetite and can restore the performance of the system.

A power flush takes at least 4-hours depending on the size of the system and the amount of magnetite present.

Cleaning chemicals are pumped at an increased pressure through the system. At the right temperature they break down the solidified sludge. The power flush machine removes magnetite particles that are suspended in the chemical solution.

Once the sludge has been removed, the system is topped up with clean water and the correct dose of inhibitor is added.

Pricing

We like to make things easy! Power flushes are usually charged at a fixed price. The minimum price allows for four radiators. The price increases with each additional radiator:

Weekdays between 7am and 5pm

  • Up to four radiators = From £441.00 + VAT
  • Each additional radiator = From £58.50 + VAT

NB: Higher rates apply for power flushes scheduled for evenings and weekends.

If you’re unsure whether or not you need a power flush, a gas engineer can be booked to provide an assessment and recommendations. A half-hour rate is charged (1-hour minimum):

  • Domestic gas supply = From £49.50 + VAT
  • Non-domestic gas supply = From £63.00 + VAT
