We understand the stress of continuous boiler pressure loss, but not knowing the cause. A qualified gas engineer should be able to quickly diagnose an associated boiler fault. However, if this comes back negative, a leak is the likely cause. This is when specialist equipment is needed.

Our Gas Safe registered experts can resolve pressure loss problems on any type of central heating system. They’re equipped with non-invasive leak detection methods. If they can’t find a fault on the boiler, or a leak on exposed parts of a central heating system, an investigating to pinpoint the location of a leak in concealed pipes can be carried out.

Leaks in Central Heating Systems

WATCH: How we investigate boiler pressure loss

This video shows how non-invasive methods are used to detect a hidden leak on a central heating system.

Several techniques are usually used during a thorough investigation.

Once found, our experts can make repairs and quote for all reinstatement work needed.

Boiler pressure loss investigation

A water fed central heating system is sealed. It should maintain pressure if there are no issues.

If a boiler is continually losing pressure, a leak isn’t assumed automatically. Our Gas Safe registered experts will first check for boiler faults, such as a damaged expansion vessel, or pressure release valve. If no issues are found, a leak investigation will follow.

Checks on exposed parts of the heating system are done first. Tiny amounts of water may be escaping from pinhole leaks in radiator panels, corroded pipes or damaged valves and seals. If visual checks fail to reveal a leak, a “trace and access” investigation follows to find leaks on concealed parts of the system.

Insurance claim advice

If you suspect a leak in your central heating or plumbing system, you shouldn’t ignore it. Fixing the problem can usually be covered on an insurance policy.

Water escape inside a property could be causing bigger problems than any visible signs might suggest. Water damage can eventually compromise the structural integrity of a property if left unresolved. Failing to act quickly might mean your insurance company rejects your claim.
